STA Award in Swimming Teaching

Swimming Teaching- Award

Holders of this Award can teach up to 10 beginners. They may deliver the STAnley Series of awards and also the Octopus and Goldfish Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme.

Holders of this Award act as an assistant swimming teacher and may teach larger classes or advanced skills under the direct supervision of a swimming teacher qualified to certificate level.

Pre-requisites
– Be at least 16 years old or older
– Hold a current membership with MSTA
– Bronze Medallion/ILS Certified
– CPR Certified
– Able to swim front crawl, back stroke and breast stroke 25m

All potential candidates will be required to complete:
i)  Stroke Assessment – 25m
ii) Short essay of not more than 100 words courses

What you will learn:
– Understanding the Elementary Scientific Principles Relevant to Swimming
– Planning, Preparing and Teaching Swimming
– Understanding the Principles of Safe and Equitable Coaching Practice

Assessment:
Candidates are assessed during the course; take a written theory examination at the end of the course and Practical Teaching Exam.

 

STA Certificate in Swimming Teaching

Swimming Teaching – Certificate
The STC is aim to prepare holders to teach, without supervision, pupils of all level.

Pre-requisites
– Be at least 17 years old or older
– Hold a current membership with MSTA
– Bronze Medallion/ILS Certified
– CPR Certified
– Able to swim front crawl, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly 50 m
– Holder of STA Award in Swimming Teaching

What you will learn:
– Teaching Swimming, Lifesaving and Survival Techniques
– Understanding How to Develop Participants Through Coaching Sport
– Understanding the Fundamentals of Coaching Sport

Assessment:
Candidates are assessed during the course, take a written theory examination at the end of the course and are assessed in a practical exam.

 

STA AWARD in TEACHING

People with disabilities
Holders of People with disabilities qualification can teach basic aquatic skills to individuals and groups and will understand the correct care and handling of, those with special needs.

Pre-requisites
– Be at least 18 years old at the time of the examination
– Hold a current membership with MSTA
– Holder of Bronze Medallion/ILS Certificate
– CPR Certified
– STA Award in Swimming Teaching

What you will learn:
– Planning , preparing and teaching people with Disabilities swimming
– People with Disabilities

Assessment:
Candidates are assessed during the course, take a written theory examination at the end of the course and are assessed whilst teaching

 

STA AWARD in TEACHING

Baby and Pre- School
The Baby and Pre- School Qualification aims to produce teachers that can teach aquatic activities, including paddle strokes to strokes to babies and pre – school children adult and children lessons.

Pre-requisites
STA Swimming Teacher certificate to STA Award in Swimming Teaching

What you will learn:
– Planning, Preparing and Teaching Swimming
– Baby and Pre- School Swimming

Assessment:
Candidates are assessed during the course and take a practical teaching demonstration and a written theory examination at the end of the course.
