The World Conference on drowning prevention 2015 was hosted by the Life Saving Society Malaysia (LSSM), as a co- sponsor with the International Life Saving Federation (ILS) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).It was held in Penang, Malaysia from 4-6 November 2015.The event was opened by the Governor of Penang, His Excellency Tun Dato’ Seri Utama (Dr.) Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abbas.
Over 450 delegates from over 50 countries attended the conference, there were more than 200 speakers presenting their knowledge and exchange their ideas on the latest developments on drowning prevention activities.
WHO global report drowning was discussed which revealed that drowning claims the lives of 372,000 people each year and is among the ten leading causes of death for children and young people in every region.
The International Federation of Swimming Teachers Association (IFSTA) had set a up a booth at the conference to share the importance of certification in swimming teachers and to promote International teaching standards worldwide.
The WDCP 2015 is a good platform to leverage on the knowledge of world experts, learn and share from one another in the field of drowning prevention.
