MSTA Water Safety Workshop

It was a fantastic Saturday morning filled with parents and kid’s laughter and eagerness to learn a crucial life skill – Water Safety.  This workshop is an effort by Malaysia Swimming Teachers’ Association (MSTA) supported by New Wave Swimming Club (NWSC).  About

25 parents and kids learnt about Water Safety in aquatic bodies.  Water Confidence, Watermanship, Rescue Technique and some water games were among the activities conducted over 3 hours at Kelab Golf Perkhimmatan Awam (KGPA) in Petaling Jaya.  The activities was led by Assoc Prof Dr Tengku Fadilah binti Tengku Kamalden, an expert on water safety, the Vice President of Life Saving Society Malaysia (LSSM) and author of the online module of Water Safety at keselamatanair.com.my. About 6 facilitators from MSTA and NWSC helped particpants to be at ease in water while learning the skills of water safety. YB Elizabeth Wong gave out the certificate of attendance to the participants.

Malaysia records around 600 drowning cases per year and almost 50% of the victims are below the age of 16 years old. MSTA together with NWSC and LSSM aims to educate the society about water safety and reduce drowning incidences in Malaysia.
