Do you want to have the competence and knowledge to teach swimming and water safety to independent learners from ages 4 upward, emphasizing safety, fun, and skill development?

This course is aimed at people entering the aquatics and community recreation industry, wishing to instruct swimming and water safety and the entry point into Sport, Aquatics and Recreation industry.

The course provides the skills and knowledge required to assist learners in gaining the competencies required to deliver water-related personal safety and survival lessons as determined by the Australia Federal Government.

On successful completion of the course, learners will be will be accredited with the Swim Australia™ Teacher license, valid for three years. The course includes vocational education training requirements and non-accredited training requirements in line with the Aquatic Industry. This is the industry standard for Teachers of Swimming and Water Safety.  

On successful completion of the course, learners will:

  • Have the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and teach water familiarization, buoyancy, mobility
  • Have the knowledge and skills required to prepare for and teach water safety and survival skills
  • Have the knowledge and skills to plan individual swimming lessons, usually within the bounds of a pre-determined swim programme
  • Have the knowledge and skills required to complete water rescues in indoor or outdoor, built or natural swimming venues
  • Be able to involves swimming activities that may be carried out in shallow or deep water
